KZ EDX Ultra - Just when you thought things couldn't get any better!!

I want to start by saying...Well done KZ....it probably means nothing to you as a company that I say this, but for me it has a certain value because KZ was my Introduction into CHiFi and a few months ago I was so dissapointed with the findings concerning certain models.

Anyway onto the EDX Ultra, which is an evolution of the EDX Pro, and what an evolution!!

Over the last 8 months KZ has launched a good dozen or so earphones, some with pretty good sound, fruit of collaborations with two very well renowned reviewers, that used their knowhow and opinions to tune the DQ6S and CRN /ZEXPro.

In parallel KZ gave us the CCA CRA, dare I say a game changer for KZ and to the market to an extent.
It's well executed sub bass V signiture was an instant success.
For the price it offered nothing short of amazing sonic prowess.

Clean powerful bass with little bleed into the mids, vocals that Initially seemed recessed but upon careful listening actually proved to keep up with the bass, and an extension that was unheard of for a single DD at the low 15usd price tag.

Forward a couple of months and we get the EDA, 3 IEMs in one box, with different tunings, of which the Balanced was for me the favourite and an upgrade in my opinion to the sound of the CRA.
Somehow the 5k peak present on the CRA was tamed , although graphically its not very evident, subbass was brought down a couple of dB, cleaning up vocals, Instruments, improving timbre and tonality and lastly extension although graphically was also reduced was cleaned up.

Then early Abril the CRA Plus arrives and that is in essence a EDA Balanced up to around 3k, with a further tamed 3 to 6k are, but it brings back the extension past 8k of the original CRA.
I considered the CRA Plus the best in this evolution, even considering the occasional splashiness of the treble.

Finally we arrive at the EDX Ultra.
Using , I speculate, the latest version of the driver used in the CCA CRA+, KZ has once again improved the tuning, maintaining the Bass and mids up to 2k of the previously mentioned models, but bringing down further the peak of 5k and cleaning up the treble for a final result that is nothing short of spectacular, especially when you consider price of around 22usd.

So what is the final verdict, compared to crowd favourites Moondrop Chu, it might not be as perfect and composed, but just as with the CRA+ I see myself choosing the Ultra more often than the Chu because of its well executed , dynamic presentation making it more engaging.

When compared to CRA, EDA Balanced and CRA+, its an upgrade that if you own any of the others might not make sense, since a little EQ will make them as good as the Ultra.
However if you don't own any of the others , then it's the one to buy, and let me add I would choose it over the DQ6S....ZEXPro....ZES!
