Acromegaly is a pituitary gland disorder for which a successful brain tumor surgery can be performed. Dr Jaydev Panchwagh explains the acromegaly symptoms.
Pituitary gland produces many hormones, one of which is growth hormone. A pituitary gland tumour like a pituitary microadenoma or a pituitary macroadenoma can cause increase in secretion of growth hormone. If this occurs before puberty, it causes Gigantism. If increased growth hormone is secreted after puberty, it leads to acromegaly. (एक्रोमेगाली)
Generally pituitary gland tumor is serious if it has led to metabolic disturbances or has caused problems with vision. Is Pituitary gland tumor surgery risky? Generally not, provided it has not spread to adjacent structures or is small in nature.
Pituitary tumor surgery is done endoscopically or microscopically through the nose. Pituitary tumor surgery is curable potentially.
