What went wrong for Ruapehu skifield?

The slow decline of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts came to a head last week as creditors voted on the future of the company. But with so many different moving parts it can be hard to know what went wrong, and where it goes from here.

CORRECTION: In the final seconds of the video we refer to Ruapehu going under "for profit ownership" for the first time. There is some debate whether RAL is a “not for profit” and there has been private and “for profit” ownership involved in the operation of both ski areas for significant time since 1954 with Whakapapa and since 1978 with Turoa.
