"(I''ve just been in Mexico) where we had two summits, one summit of Latin American and Caribbean countries, and another of the Rio Group, and we also had an additional UNASUR (Union of South American countries) meeting. President Preval took part in that meeting and I can tell the people of Haiti that rarely have I seen such commitment to solidarity as I saw in those meetings."

STORYLINE
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited Haiti on Thursday to reaffirm his country''s commitment to Haiti''s reconstruction after the devastating earthquake that struck on January 12.
During his brief visit, the Brazilian leader met President Rene Preval and Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive, and toured areas damaged by the earthquake.
Lula proposed that the international community forgive Haiti''s foreign debt in order to fuel growth in the economically crippled nation.
The Brazilian president echoed the sentiment expressed last week by his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy, saying that while forgiving Haiti''s debt may not represent an immediate relief, it will help the nation get back on its feet.
Brazil and Haiti also agreed on a series of bilateral agreements pointed at strengthening the island''s education and agriculture systems, among others.
Lula also visited Brazilian troops serving with the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Brazil has led the security contingent of MINUSTAH since the United Nations intervened in the country after then-President Jean-Bertrand Arisitide was ousted in 2004.
Da Silva arrived in Haiti from Cuba.
His tour of the region started on Monday in Mexico, and his next stop is El Salvador.
An estimated 230-thousand people were killed in last month''s magnitude 7.0 quake, and at least a (m) million others were left homeless.
