First Step: Before starting for China , get an International esim with unlimites data in your home country ( I used holafly).All my apps like WhatsApp, Google , Instagram worked in China.

Apps installed:
Alipay - for all payments (added my credit card before starting)
wechat - for all communications and some event registrations.
AMap - Directions and metro schedules
didi - Chinese uber with inbuilt translation
Google translate - With Chinese simplified downloaded for offline use
Trip.com - Hotels,Trains,Flights and any tours.
