The war may have changed children's lives in Ukraine, but it hasn't stopped them from dreaming.

Seeing real-life heroes rescuing people after the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam and hydroelectric power plant in 2023 inspired 9-year-old Andrii's dream of becoming a fireman when he grows up.

"When I grow up, I want to be a rescuer," says Andrii. "I like to see our brave men saving children, people."

Vladyslav, a local firefighter who helped rescue hundreds of people affected by the dam's destruction, has become Andrii's role model. "We work during air raids, during shelling, because saving people is the most important thing for us," he says.

UNICEF works with partners in Ukraine to ensure every child has a safe and healthy childhood, and the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
