Amarnath Yatra ka Raasta | Baltal to Holy Cave Route

The Amarnath Yatra opens up from 1st of July to 15th of August. The Yatra starts from Pahalgam as well as Baltal and since I was in Sonamarg, Baltal being just 14.5 kms away, I decided to discover why people from all over the country undertake this pilgrimage.

At the very beginning, I'd like to say that it is not easy. But the phenomenon of nature at the end of the hike is just incredible and completely worth the effort. Kashmir is home to some amazing sights!

We finally make our way towards the Holy Cave.

Thousands of people march towards the holy cave, some one foot, some on the backs of horses and donkeys, to witness the formation of a stalagmite in a cave deep within the mountains.
It is interesting to see how a belief leads men and women, young and old, to undertake a strenuous climb for a fleeting glimpse of this stalagmite.

The stalagmite forms as water drips from the ceiling of the cave and freezes due to freezing temperature.
The cave itself is huge and truly awe inspiring.
