The Royal Commission for Riyadh City launched the first phase of "Riyadh bus" service as part of King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport (bus and metro) for the city of Riyadh. Serving the city's existing and future transport needs, this project represents a quantum leap in mobility services. The project will contribute to growth of Riyadh’s economy, improve its urban environment, enhance the interconnectedness of its parts, and raise the quality of life of its residents and visitors. The Riyadh bus network features 86 bus routes covering 1,900 kilometers with 2,900+ bus stations and stops served by 800+ buses. Launched in five stages starting with 15 bus routes, operating 340 buses, and serving 633 bus stops and stations. The launch of the Riyadh bus service will be supported by the launch of the online portal www.riyadhbus.sa offering a variety of options for passengers to learn more about the service, the bus routes, and how to purchase tickets. Multiple ticket purchasing options accommodate the needs of all passengers: purchasing a darb card as a digital wallet, the Ticket Vending Machines at select bus stations, or contactless with bank debit/credit card or enabled smart device on the bus. A single ticket costs 4 SAR and is valid for 120 minutes upon activation. The launch of the Riyadh bus will contribute to the reduction of cars on the road and ease traffic congestion. Riyadh bus is safe and convenient for everyone, from youth to the elderly, those with special needs, and families alike. With a variety of easy options for ticket purchase and accessibility, the Riyadh bus will support the sustainability objectives of the city of Riyadh and the general well-being of the public and at the same time support citizens, residents, and visitors in increasing their access to workplaces, education facilities, or leisure activities.
Running on ultra-low-sulfur fuel, the Riyadh bus is environmentally friendly and as such reduces air pollution and CO2 emissions.
