Heavy footseps on the ground,
In the nascent night, the lamplighter
Has started to light dozens of fires.
But there is one more thing, he is good at :
He also knows how to turn on women's hearts.

When he hits you with his loving gaze
You'll burn in this appealing blaze

With his long stick, in London,
He lights the lampposts one by one
To protect people til the morning comes
Like his father did before and so will his son.

The morning light comes, the lamplighter
Has used up all his whale blubber ;
Exhausted and alone
He falls into bed grey like a firestone.
As there is one thing, he's not good at :
He doesn't know how to keep one woman's heart.
