Mr. Trevor Barton of Hadley Wood in Herefordshire has collected over 400 different pipes during a ten year period. M/S of Mr. Barton sitting at his desk holding large, greatly carved wooden pipe. C/U shot of the pipe's carvings. The pipe is from Germany - informs the narrator. Strange looking Japanese pipe is next on display.



M/S of Mr Barton at his desk as Mrs. Barton enters the room. "Trevor and his wife Deena have acquired a mass knowledge about their hobby ... the smoking customs of people throughout the world ... the history of pipes..." - tells the voiceover. M/S of Mrs. Burton holding a beautiful pipe of Dresden China made in 1850.



Succession of C/U shots of different pipes from different origins: "Bavarian pipe said to have once been owned by Ludwig, the Mad King", Chinese water pipes, masterfully carved Persian 'nargila' pipe, Austrian meerschaum cigar holder, a rare 18th century Staffordshire "snake pipe".



M/S of Mr. and Mrs. Burton sitting on the sofa. Mr. Burton is holding 'a monster' in his arms - a four foot six inches long Austrian pipe (takes two ounces of tobacco). Mrs. Burton lights his monster pipe with the match. C/U of Mr. Burton smoking. M/S of "happy couple" - Mrs. Burton knitting and Mr. Burton smoking - if at all visible through the smokescreen.
