This episode is already following the Gundam SEED Destiny Astray storyline (SCOOP 04), during the South American War of Independence which takes place shortly after the First Alliance-PLANT War.

The Gundam Astray Out Frame was built by Lowe using the incomplete frame of a ZAFT mobile suit, and later given to Jess. Jess is often accompanied by Kaite Madigan, a professional mobile suit pilot who serves as his bodyguard, and owns several customized mobile suits of his own. Both are currently employees of a mysterious man named Matias, who claims to have "no grasp of history" and therefore wishes for Jess to record history as it unfolds. Lowe is effectively removed from the story in the first chapter of DESTINY ASTRAY, when he begins a long journey to Mars, but returns in later chapters that are set two years later.
During this time, Jess documents the activities of Edward Harrelson alias "Ed the Ripper", who fights against the Earth Alliance for the freedom of the continent.
Ed has to fight several former comrades like Rena Imelia and Jane Houston. However in the last battle against Rena, Ed is critically wounded and shortly after the war ends.
Edward Harellson became the most prominent member of the U.S.S.A. rebellion against the EA after the war ended.
When he did defect, he stole his own Sword Calamity and a Raider Full Spec. Initially the EA believed that if "Ed the Ripper, the Hero of South America" were to die the people would lose heart and the rebellion would end. Thus after Ed destroyed three Raider FS units with his Sword Calamity, to keep fighting to a minimum several aces were sent after him, including Morgan Chevalier, Rena Imelia, and Jane Houston.

In this episode he faces the "Moonlight Mad Dog" Morgan Chevalier, as his unit prepares a missle attack over the main South American base.
He was one of the aces sent to take down Edward Harrelson who had gone AWOL from the Alliance with the GAT-X133 Sword Calamity and some other MS and was wanted for treason. Morgan leaked out false information about a missile attack on the contingent of South America to lure Edward into space so he could stop the attack. In space, Morgan was able to pin down Edward using the gunbarrels pods, but Edward managed to escape by riding a debris to Earth similar to the way Lowe and his friends did.
