Kobe Bryant Full Highlights (Rare)
LA Lakers vs LA Clippers
March 17, 2004
Staples Center

- 27 pts, 9r, 6a, 1s, 1b / 11-17 fg, 1-3 3pt, 4-4 ft

The Los Angeles Lakers started their 2003-04 “super-team” campaign with an 18-3 record through 21 games. Injuries, clashing egos and locker-room turmoil contributed to the club’s mediocre (by their standard) finish to the season, ending it at 56-26. The big 4 (Kobe, Shaq, Malone, Payton) started together in only 38 of the 82 regular season games. Gary was the only starter to play all 82. Bryant missed 17 games, Shaq 15, and Karl 40. In those 38 games, the LA managed to go an impressive 29-9. What could’ve been if Karl hadn’t injured his knee right?

As expected, Kobe’s numbers took a hit in 2004. Through his first 36 games, he was at only 21.5 ppg on 42.3% in 36.4 minutes (another huge drop). To conclude the season, Kobe got back to his ‘03 ways posting 27p, 6.6r and 6.1a on 45.3% in 39.2 min in his last 29 games. He finished the team’s game 82 (his 65th) with the unforgettable pair of 3’s to tie and beat Portland, ultimately clinching the Lakers yet another Pacific Division title.

This March 17 crosstown showdown matchup was the 3rd amongst a 17 game stretch in which Kobe averaged 28.9 ppg to complete 2004. The Lakers went 14-3 in that span.
