Audiogram A
The goal is to move from institutional centric care to health consumer centric care. Pre-Covid, we were beginning to transition to a value based care model. When Covid happened, my doors were locked to my patients. They had no access. That’s when virtual care sprang to life.

One of the biggest challenges in adopting telehealth is knowing what is best for your health system. Videos and conferencing services are only part of the solution for an effective telehealth platform. The challenge for hospitals is in understanding what their goal is and what services they’ll need. Think three years out so the platform you adopt supports your hospital long-term.

A telehealth or virtual care program can’t be rolled out in one day. Hospitals need to start small, with incremental wins and growth. For instance, what’s your program for readmittance, for reducing ED visits? What’s your diabetes or respiratory program? Telehealth involves the entire health system. Its implementation needs to be segmented to succeed.

Patients with chronic conditions only spend 15 hours in any given year with a doctor but wellness takes place in the other 8745 hours. Hospitals need to embrace the whole continuum of virtual care, including telehealth, remote patient monitoring and chronic care management. Every health system needs to ask, does your unified virtual care collaborative platform support what you’re doing?
