Today’s program, Kon Puraton Praner Tane, invites you into the timeless world of Rabindranath Tagore—a world where music becomes poetry, and dance becomes the soul’s language. Through Rabindrasangeet and Rabindra Nritya Natya, we journey into that living tradition where melody and movement breathe together as one.
Each presentation tonight is a brushstroke on a canvas of emotions—unfolding Tagore’s songs of nature, his reflections on love and devotion, his dreams of freedom, and his tender explorations of the human spirit.
The evening will culminate in a finale from Shyama followed by Chandalika, two of Tagore’s most cherished dance dramas. While in Shyama, love blossoms into sacrifice and destiny is embraced with tender grace, lifting the heart toward the eternal, in Chandalika, the thirst for dignity awakens into strength, breaking chains of silence and turning the cry of the outcast into a song of freedom.
The performers who grace our stage this evening come from both Saptarshi Sangha and Santiniketan, Tagore’s own sanctuary of learning and creativity.
Saptarshi Sangha is a community initiative for the furtherance of Indian art and culture.
More than an institution, Santiniketan is a way of life—where music and dance are nurtured not as mere performance, but as a rhythm of harmony, beauty, and freedom.
The artists from Sapti Sangha have been mentored by Smti Roshni Banerji a B High AIR Rabindrasangeet artist of long standing and a venerable tutor of Rabindrasangeet.
The music direction and overall planning and styling for Santiniketan’s part of the program has been provided by Professor Prasanta Ghosh, Senior Faculty of Sangeet Bhavan, Visva-Bharati University.
