Lekki Port Chinese companies built a new “national gateway” for Nigeria

Lekki Port, built by China Harbor Engineering Co., is Nigeria's first modern deep-water port. With a total investment of $1.044 billion, it will address the country's insufficient port handling capacity and become a container transportation hub for African countries. Lagos, Nigeria's largest city and economic center, has faced terminal facility shortages and congestion issues. The Lekki Port project aims to alleviate these problems and reduce logistics costs. After completion, it will increase container throughput capacity, drive regional economic development, and promote the Nigerian government's goal of infrastructure integration. The port is expected to generate significant economic growth, creating jobs and bringing substantial commercial income over its 45-year concession period.
