48 teams (expanded from 32) divided into 12 groups (A–L) of 4 teams each.
Each team plays 3 group matches (round-robin).
The top 2 teams from each group plus the 8 best third-placed teams advance to the new Round of 32.
Knockout stages follow single-elimination through to the final on July 19, 2026.

Group B: Canada, UEFA Play-Off A winner, Qatar, Switzerland

Group D: United States, Paraguay, Australia, UEFA Play-Off C winner
Group E: Germany, Curaçao, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador
Group F: Netherlands, Japan, UEFA Play-Off B winner, Tunisia
Group G: Belgium, Egypt, Iran, New Zealand
Group H: Spain, Cabo Verde, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay
Group I: France, Senegal, FIFA Play-Off 2 winner, Norway

“Play-Off winners” refer to teams that will qualify through inter-confederation or UEFA play-off matches in March 2026.
📌 What’s Next Before Group Matches
Inter-confederation & UEFA Play-Offs in March 2026 will fill the remaining 6 or so slots, completing all 48 teams.
The actual group stage matches will be played June 11–27, 2026.
Hosts: United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Opening match: Mexico vs South Africa at Estadio Azteca.
This is the first 48-team World Cup, so the group stage and knockout structure are expanded compared with previous tournaments.
