Renowned health expert and scientist Dr. Rhonda Patrick refers to a recent peer-reviewed study published in the journal Chemosphere. The study revealed that black plastic items, such as kitchen utensils, food containers and children’s toys, often contain toxic flame retardants. These harmful chemicals, including restricted compounds like decabromodiphenyl ether (decaBDE), were found in approximately 85% of the 203 tested products. The contamination is attributed to the recycling of electronic waste (e-waste) plastics into consumer goods, leading to unintended exposure to these hazardous substances.

The study highlights the health risks associated with such exposure, noting that these flame retardants are linked to cancer, hormone disruption, and other serious health issues.
