On the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, I thought that I would share some thoughts about the Hundred Days campaign, and especially the armies involved and the strategic context. There is never any harm in looking at other periods of history. At the very least it expands your sense of what is possible and how different societies do things. So far, I have been unable to convince a publisher to let me finish my series of Napoleonic novels, but one day I would like to get the 106th to Waterloo.

Yes, I realise that by a slip of teh tongue I said Bessieres when I meant Berthier.

There are obviously lots of terrific books on the subject, but a few worth mention are:-
M. Adkin, The Waterloo Companion
G. Glover, Waterloo: myth and reality - and also his Waterloo Archive for so many new or rare personal accounts.

J. Hussey, Waterloo. The campaign of 1815. 2 Vols is especially good on the planning before the campaign and then what actually happened.

Recently, I have also read and enjoyed:-

A. Field, Wellington's Waterloo Allies
