Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled a set of customs duty measures in Budget 2026 focused on boosting exports, strengthening domestic manufacturing, and supporting clean energy and strategic industries.

To encourage marine exports, the government will increase the duty-free import cap on inputs used for seafood processing from 1% to 3% of the previous year’s export turnover. In the energy sector, customs duty exemptions have been announced for capital goods used in lithium-ion cell and battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing, as well as for sodium antimonate, a critical input for solar glass production.
