HIV病毒进入人体之后一般需要二到四周，最多的时候还需要八周。我们血液当中才可以检测到HIV抗体，因为从HIV病毒感染到机体产生抗体这个时间段，检测不到HIV的抗体。因此我们把这个时间段称为窗口期；又称为空窗期。需要注意的是在窗口期由于血液当中，实际上是有病毒的，只是说没有产生抗体；抗体检测不到就是说个时间段里仍然具有传染性，这就是艾滋病的窗口期。那么窗口期患者可能出现一些不典型的症状，就是说到急性感染期。比如说发烧、咽痛、腹泻还有就是关节疼痛以及出现皮疹，全身淋巴结肿大等等；也可以在窗口期出现。
