Prime Hydration, the energy drinks company co-founded by popular YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, is now entangled in a massive $5 million lawsuit. The legal action comes as a result of alleged traces of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs), commonly known as 'forever chemicals,' found in Prime Hydration's Grape Sports Drink. The lawsuit claims that the company's products are "adulterated, misbranded, and illegal to sell," according to recently released court documents.
During a motion hearing held on April 18, official documents pertaining to the lawsuit were made public, shedding light on the grave accusations against Prime Hydration. The company, known for its range of sports drinks, drink mixes, and energy drinks, now faces severe scrutiny over the presence of PFAs in its popular Grape Sports Drink.
PFAs are synthetic chemicals that are highly detrimental to both human health and the environment. These substances can be found in various sources, including food and drink packaging, dust particles, and even drinking water. Research has linked exposure to PFAs with numerous adverse effects, such as decreased fertility and increased high blood pressure in pregnant women, developmental delays in children, elevated cancer risks, and compromised immune responses.
According to a court document dated August 2023, a third-party test reportedly detected significant levels of PFAs, including notable amounts of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), in the Prime Hydration Grape Sports Drink. The document states, "The amount of PFOS found within the product from testing is approximately three times the recommended lifetime health advisory for drinking water."
The allegations against the company have sent shockwaves through the industry, raising concerns about the safety and transparency of energy drink products.
