A Chattanooga non-profit director was back in court on Friday.

City records show that police found drugs in Richard Bennett's car back in June.

After his arrrest, the city of Chattanooga parted ways with Bennett and his non-profit, A Better Tomorrow.

Bennett had been working with the city's Violence Reduction Initative.

At Friday's hearing, Richard Bennett's attorney asked the judge to delay his preliminary hearing while they wait for the 911 calls.

After the hearing, NewsChannel9 spoke to Bennett on camera for the first time. He told us he's innocent and that this arrest has tainted his reputation - one he says is aimed at helping others.

"As far as this community and the young men and how they're dying, I'm frustrated with that and I'm not a man to talk about it, I'm going to be about it and I want the young people to know that Mr. Bennett still loves him, still on their case, and will continue to do it," Bennett said.

Bennett's next court date is scheduled for September 12th.
