In this vlog, Rhett explores the Emancipation Village on opening day, as vendors set up their booths and prepare for a week of engaging activities, live performances, cultural displays, and authentic African and Caribbean food.
The first stop is at the Egyptian exhibit, featuring statues, pyramids, and symbolic artifacts curated by The Sanctuary of Yaanuwn — a local group focused on preserving and sharing the ancient knowledge of Egypt from East to West.
From there, Rhett browses several vendor booths packed with African-inspired clothing, handmade accessories, and traditional wear. At Tropical Dehydrates Limited, he samples locally dehydrated snacks like dragonfruit, pineapple, watermelon, and mango chow.
Next, he visits QT Moodies, showcasing traditional African and Caribbean fashion, including imports from Nigeria and Ghana, as well as handmade local pieces. At Dee Garden Decor, Rhett explores concrete-crafted plant pots, fountains, candle holders, and an impressive variety of local plants and home decor. Nearby, Simply Roots features natural oils, incense, copper jewelry, and art pieces, all created with care and purpose.
Throughout the village, viewers will find a wide range of authentic, handmade, culturally significant items. There are also educational exhibits highlighting African history, emancipation, and identity. Rhett encourages everyone to experience the space, support local creatives, learn something new, and of course — taste the diverse food options available.
