Polling stations across Kangpokpi district of Manipur wore a deserted look on April 19 after locals decided to abstain from voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. This was following the April 17 announcement by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) and Kuki-Inpi to abstain from voting. The tribal bodies had advised all Kuki-Zo communities within Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, to strictly adhere to the civil society organisation's decision of abstention from voting.

CoTU in its statement said that the decision to "abstain from election" comes in light of the ongoing conflict between the Kuki-Zo and the Meetei communities, marked by incidents of violence since May 3, 2023, including killings, burnings, and tortures.

The impact of the decision was evident as the voter turnout among Kuki-Zo voters was at a dismal low. Many were also seen taking to roads with placards and banners saying “no justice, no vote”.

Poor voter turnout was also reported in many polling stations in Churachandpur district.

Polling is being held for the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency and 15 assembly segments of the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. Voting for the remaining 13 assembly segments of the Outer Manipur constituency will be held on April 26. The state witnessed around 62.58 per cent voter turnout till 3 pm.
