The Female Reproductive System. Objective to study about the Female Reproductive System. The Female Reproductive Organs are present inside the pelvis. It consists of a pair of ovaries, two fallopian tubes, and the uterus. The ovaries are oval-shaped structures present on either side of the uterus. They are attached to the uterus by fibrous cords known as the utero -⁠ovarian ligaments. The ovaries, which are grayish pink in color, are each about four centimeters long and two centimeters wide, and weigh about two to three point five grams. Usually, each ovary takes turns releasing an ovum every month. An ovum is the largest single cell in the female body. After the ovum is released into the fallopian tube through the process known as ovulation, it travels down the uterus. The uterus is a pair-shaped structure with a thick muscle wall. The lowest part of the uterus is called the cervix, which opens into the vagina. The vagina, a muscular tubular tract, leads from the uterus to the exterior of the body. The ovaries secrete estrogen, a hormone which releases into the bloodstream and helps in developing secondary sexual characteristics in the female body. Like the growth of breasts, broader hips, and more. The ovaries are formed from pubic hair. Progesterone is another hormone that prepares the uterus for pregnancy and the mammary glands within the breasts for lactation. During pregnancy, both hormones work together to keep the fetus in a healthy state.
