Richter about the Prokofiev Eighth:

“Of all the Prokofiev’s sonatas, this one is the richest. It contains a complex inner life with its profound contradictions. At times, it seems to freeze, as if you are listening to the relentless passage of time. The sonata is somewhat heavy for perception; only it is heavy from its riches, like a tree heavy with fruit. Along with the Fourth and the Ninth, it remains my favourite composition. Gilels played it superbly in his solo recital in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.”

Соната несколько тяжела для восприятия, но тяжела от богатства — как дерево, отягченное плодами. Наряду с Четвертой и Девятой она остается любимым моим сочинением. Гилельс великолепно играл ее в Большом зале в своем сольном концерте»
