Attwaters Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge

Some of the best birding in Texas can be found just an hour west of Houston, near the little town of Sealy. It's called the Attwater's Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge, and they offer free van tours on the first Saturday of the month.

We got lucky and got a chance to see a male Attwater's Prairie Chicken putting on his mating display - "booming." Many of the other birders got to check-off some Life Birds, including a White-tailed Hawk, Bobwhite Quail, and a Burrowing Owl.

So, if you're looking for cheap (free, actually!) things to do in Sealy, be sure and check out this wildlife refuge!
