India’s cleanest city, Indore, is facing a deadly drinking water crisis.
In Bhagirathpura, contaminated tap water caused diarrhoea and vomiting, killing at least 8 people and infecting over 1,100 residents.

Authorities traced the contamination to a damaged main water pipeline, above which a toilet had been constructed, allowing waste to mix with drinking water.
136 patients were hospitalised, 26 remain in ICU, and even a five-month-old baby lost its life.

The Madhya Pradesh government has called the situation emergency-like.
40,000 residents were screened, over 2,400 suspected cases identified, and the High Court has intervened, directing immediate supply of clean water and medical care.
