When traveling internationally, most of us don’t use both of our allotted checked bags (nor should you!). So what if somebody offered to pay you a couple hundred dollars for the right to use one or both of your unused checked bags? If you’re like me, you’d probably be asking two important questions: how does that work and more importantly…is it even legal?

This week I’m in Los Angeles to answer these questions and try my hand at being what is known as an “air courier”.

A few months back, I ran across a company known as AirMule. It’s an unfortunate name because of the English connotations, but the concept was intriguing to me. How can we merge technology and the new sharing economy with the opportunity of wasted luggage space?

In this video, I try the whole Airmule process from start to finish. This includes:

✅Setting up my trip in my Airmule account
✅Reviewing the manifest with all of the Airmule shipping items
✅Picking up the Airmule packages at the airport
✅Checking in as an air courier with the airline
✅Getting the package through customs
✅Dropping off the package and getting PAID

Using a service like Airmule was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be and all of the concerns I had - primarily those around safety and security - were unnecessary.
