COMING UP, the story behind an absolute classic of Rock told by its iconic singer. Joy to the World by Three Dog Night became the #1 song of 1971. Chuck Negron who was one of their singers at the time sang those perfect opening lyrics….4 words that would change everything. Jeremiah was a bullfrog. and the rest is history. The song was actually a discarded song from a silly kid’s show that failed. In fact, the band wanted nothing to do with it and turned the song down several times before Chuck Negron finally got it. It’s probably the most familiar and beloved four words ever sung in a pop record This story is one you have to hear to believe, It was written by an actor who was in one of the 80s big movies. In fact, this actor’s mother also wrote a number one hit, the 1st #1 hit for Elvis Presley. the only mother-son to accomplish that in history. Both Danny Hutton the last remains original active member of Three Dog Night and Chuck Negron who sang the original recording share their takes in an exclusive interview. Next on Professor of. Rock.

In many of the interviews I’ve done with legendary artists and groups, they always emphasize the importance of the opening chords or lyrics. To grab a listener and never let them go. Well of the eons of songs that have been written over the last 100 years I think this song might have the best first four-word hook in history.

Jeremiah was a bullfrog. You have to have been living underneath a rock for the last 60 years if you don’t recognize that riveting opening of one of the all-time staples of classic rock and roll by the multi-platinum marauders known as Three Dog Night.

Three Dog Night had a collection of some of the best musicians in the game including Jimmy Greenspoon on keys, Joe Schermie on Bass, Michael Allsup on guitar, and Floyd Sneed on drums.

When they are one of the biggest bands in America selling out live shows nationwide. In fact, they were one of America’s first stadium bands. Led at their peak by the three-force singing trio of Corey Wells, Danny Hutton, and Joy to the World’s lead Chuck Negron. They had 21 top 40 hits from the late 60s into the 70s including One, Shambala, An Old Fashioned Love song, Black and White, Easy to be Hard, Mama Told Me Not to Come and their signature song: Joy to the World.

With a plethora of great material from some of the best songwriters of the time, including Paul Williams, Laura Nyro, and Hoyt Axton. Hoyt Axton was in the 1984 blockbuster Gremlins. He also wrote Joy to the world. Will get more into that in the video. Actually, Thee Dog Night recorded Elton John’s Your Song and released it before Elton’s version. Three Dog Night was a force to be reckoned with back in their peak. Their music is not only timeless but in a six-year period from 1969 to 1974, The group pretty much never left the charts.
