Here's an example of the power of the default Noob Boss without heavily modding it. This is the "Snifit Twins' Revenge" fight from Mute's Christmas Quest, a project I made as a christmas gift turned birthday gift for EvilGuy0613. Unlike TAY2, this was not approved initially to keep the surprise aspect of the fight. Despite that, Evil made it canon anyway (because he's ni...well, tolerant to my actions (: ).


If you aren't familiar with "The After Years" series, it is basically a "second generation" sequel to the Mario series where a new cast of characters continue the adventures without the guidance of anybody from the old times of the Mushroom Kingdom (Mario and co. died of old age). It's up to the new hero "Mute" along with the assistance of Peach and Mario's daughter "Cecilia" and a female toad named "Lumine" to stop any threats from harming the New Mushroom Kingdom. This entry serves as a small bonus campaign to explore a christmas crisis caused by the Snifit Twins, back for revenge after their defeat from the Nova Wars. It's up to Mute to both save christmas, while also maybe uncovering a dark secret from his own mother. This hack serves as an inbetween of The After Years and it's upcoming sequel.


So what can I say about this boss? Unlike Frankleton, Alice (from TAY2), or even Goaldobadorrer, these guys are regular noob bosses. The only really stand-out feature was the fact there is two of them, and also Mellon coded blocks for one of them to stand on. Other than that, what is seen is something that can be replicated since you can use multiple noob bosses for a single arena. This makes sense considering I brought life to these guys once again before I really got used to ASM.


Anyway, these guys reference each other's boss battle from the ultra version of After Years mod, one being in the ceiling throwing bombs and the other being on the ground personally assaulting you. The funny thing about these guys is they weren't in the original, or at least not as bosses. Clawgrip was the original elite body guard for Nova. However, due to people thinking Clawgrip is too difficult, Snifit Twins took his place instead...which in hindsight, was a good idea for story reasons. This can be seen as a puzzle boss since you can stop Snifit Brother Blue and focus on Snifit Brother Red until he's down (both each have 6 HP). Besides that, it's not a very complex fight but they provide a unique challenge.

As cheesy as a "christmas special" is for typical media, if you know me well enough I don't do anything the normal way. So if you're sick of "let's save santa" or "let's defeat the ice witch" stories with christmas stock episodes, I actually would play Mute's Christmas Quest simply because it does subvert expectations a fair bit. I did loosely spoil that there is something up with Mute's Mother, but not what exactly. So go play it, it is probably the most underrated hack I've made but it's FAR better than Mario's First Adventure and even the original P-switch (which the reboot is still coming btw). :p
