Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome or EGUS has been known to be a problem in the horse for some years now.

The occurrence varies with breed, use, management and level of training, with the highest incidence occurring in thoroughbred racehorses.

Gastric ulcers are very painful and can negatively impact not only performance but the horse’s quality of life.

The only way to definitively diagnose EGUS is to use gastroscopy – putting a camera down into the horse’s stomach.

Clinical symptoms can vary greatly from horse to horse – where one individual may exhibit many classic signs: poor appetite / attitude / body condition and energy levels, another may exhibit no apparent symptoms at all.
