Confronting gender-based bias in medicine by empowering our collective voice through awareness campaigns, policy reform, and legal action to hold men and women equally accountable for family planning.

The FDA calculates the possible health consequences for women taking the pill, against the potential health consequences of not taking the pill, which is pregnancy. The bar for men is higher because men don’t personally run the risk of pregnancy, so, any side effects would be more harmful to them than just not taking anything at all. How might we include men into the conversation of family planning, by creating equal spaces, for both men and women to take responsibility?

What We Delivered: An action plan that aspirationally paves the way to our North Star: Promote bodily autonomy, regardless of gender, and hold people in positions of power accountable, for the harmful effects of inaction.

Delivered: A roadmap that identifies the total 5 UN Sustainable Development goals that this solution leads to solving. Concepts for an awareness campaign, and suggestions for how to redesign the language around the limiting FDA guidelines that exclude men from the responsibilities of family planning. Ending with an open call to action for people to sign the petition; “Prompt the FDA to consider Gender Equality when it comes to family planning guidelines.”
