Italy - Dini Proposes New Government Members

Italian Prime Minister-designate Lamberto Dini told President
Oscar Luigi Scalfaro on Tuesday (17/1) that he had succeeded in
forming a new Italian government and presented him with a list of
ministers. Dini, a former central banker, gave Scalfaro a list of
ministers he said would form a non-partisan government of
"technocrats", pledged to a programme of limited economic and
institutional reform. Dini, Berlusconi's Treasury Minister, said he would retain the Treasury portfolio. He named banker Rainer Masera as Budget Minister.
