We’ve been experimenting with OpenGL on the EYESY to get some really fun audio-responsive 3D graphics!

The EYESY is customizable, making new features like this possible. In addition to creating modes in Python using the PyGame graphics library, we can now write modes in the Lua programming language using the openFrameworks toolkit. This setup harnesses the power of OpenGL in a way that is simple and intuitive.

From a hardware perspective, there is a powerful graphics processing unit (GPU) inside the EYESY. The EYESY utilizes this dedicated processor to quickly render complex 2D imagery, rich 3D graphics, and at a resolution of 1080p. This is a big step up from the Python-based PyGame graphics library the EYESY had been using up to this point.

What this means for the EYESY and this campaign:

We are excited by the possibilities so far and are looking into ‘officially’ implementing the Lua/openFrameworks/OpenGL combination into the EYESY.

We love what the EYESY can achieve with PyGame, too, so we are determining the best way to include both PyGame and OpenGL aspects in the EYESY’s OS.

At the very least, the EYESY will ship with the Python/PyGame OS you see in the campaign launch video. We will continue to work on this new OpenGL approach and hopefully get it fully integrated with the EYESY’s user-interface soon!
