A very enjoyale afternoon spent at Shenfield on the Great Eastern Mainline where we see no end of services from Greater Anglia, TFL Rail and freight from Freightliner and GBRF.

Shenfield is always a great station to come to, mostly because of the layout of the station gives you the chance to capture all of the services if you are standing at the western end of the station like I was during my stay.

Shenfield station was first opened in 1843 by the Eastern Counties Railway when the railway was extended to Brentwood and Colchester, allowing for more cities and towns outside of the London area to be connected to the network. The station though was short lived because it was closed in 1850. This was because at the time Shenfield was a small rural village which meant that the station saw very little usage from passengers and financially it was running at a loss from the moment it was opened.

It wasn't until 1887 that the station was reopened with the intention for it to act as an interchange station with the opening of the Southend line two years later, so they had grand plans for this station. It is worth mentioning that the Great Eastern Railway was the firm that reopened this station to the public.

The station hadn't then been touched all that much by the different railway companies that took control of the line, it got some work done to it in 1934 when the London and North Eastern Railway laid two new tracks with accompanying platforms for the suburban trains to terminate there which still happens to this day curtesy of TFL Rail ( Transport For London Rail).

According to a land survey done in 1920 the station was home to a turntable on the London travelling side of the station as well as a large goods yard that is now the station car park which is a common theme throughout most stations in the UK these days.

Over the years since those days the station has gone through several different modernisation periods be it with the car park getting refurbished and the platforms getting some additional attention with new waiting rooms, LED display boards and a new ticket office.

I was accompanied on my travels today and social distancing was observed throughout, however I thought that I wold try something different this time around, my friend who was with me wanted to add some humour when the TFL Rail services were departing which I thought would be a fun idea, whether or not you can hear him during this because of the wind noise is another matter but I hope you all enjoy watching this as much as I did filming it. The weather and constant flow of 321's was more than enough for me but I have to say that having a pair of Freightliner class 86's slowly rolling through was the highlight for me, coupled with the tone from the driver.

This film was supposed to be from Wembley Central but unfortunately the bridge I was going to film from became inaccessible because I couldn't find anywhere to park my car.

My next film is from Tring on the West Coast Mainline. It was going to be a footbridge on the outskirts of Berkhamsted but the views weren't as good as I first thought they would be.
