The Jerome Ave line was opened into sections in 1917 from 149th to Kingsbridge and 1918 from Kingsbridge to Woodlawn. It was built under Contract 3 Route 16 by the IRT from 1915 to 1918. The line was served by 3 lines from opening to June 1940.

IRT Sixth Ave Line 1918-1938
IRT Ninth Ave Line 1918-1940
IRT Lexington Line 1917- Current
IRT Polo Ground Shuttle 1940-1958

Today the line is served by the Lexington Ave subways 4 train.
