🔊🔛 #Fairport has become somewhat of a local destination for those in the Greater #Rochester Area. With its docked boats—some with thatched tiki roofs—its canalside cafés and bars serving cocktails and margaritas, live music, and laid back atmosphere, it was more like a little version of #Margaritaville instead of a place of European vibes. After snacking on a shakshuka burger with Spanish cider on the Cayuga, we meandered around town to explore our last port town of our @ErieCanalAdventures, before heading back to the marina in the morning. Our first round of margaritas came with a platter of layered nachos at @LuluTaqueria, where Spanish-specialty food writer @FrisbieRichard scoffed at the idea of putting vanilla in sangria, and a server came by to compliment me on my limited edition Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville Crocs. (They were a gift.)

Heading inland, we did a little shopping before meandering around The Cannery, a former canning factory reimagined and refurbished as an outdoor mall of shops, restaurants, bars, and music venues. The margaritas continued to flow at @CountryRoadsFairport, followed by inventive cocktails at @IronSmoke Distillery next door. @Anna_Staropoli was on a mission to find The Blind Pig, a speakeasy in an old French Victorian chateau house on the other side of town, so we ventured to find it inside the imposing @DeLandHouseOnMain. The speakeasy up several flights of stairs—including one hidden one that retracts out of the wall—was unfortunately closed that day, plus there would have been a two-month waiting list anyway. However, a nice man let us tour around to see it for ourselves (even without knowing what we do).

The lovely yard of The DeLand House was the outdoor seating of @MainVine_WineBar downstairs, where we sat for cocktails and tapas while listening to the unavoidable karaoke coming from the @FairportBrewing lot next door. As dissonant as the singing was, if you can’t beat them, join them—and so we headed over for last call and a couple of songs.

It would be remiss to be drunk in the Rochester area and not go out for a “plate” in an inebriated state. Originally the “garbage plate” from Nick Tahou Hots—who claims copyright ownership to the term “garbage plate”—these plates consist of burgers or butterflied hot dogs smothered in a savory meat sauce, on a bed of fried potatoes and cold macaroni salad. I’ve had a few in my former times in Rochester, but it was to be @frisbierichard’s first one, at the one late night place to get them in Fairport: @TJRyansHideawayHots. As much as the foodie thought he’d be repulsed by the very idea of it, he actually enjoyed all of its textures, temperatures, and flavors. Then again, alcohol will have that effect on people. — Successful night out in #Fairport, NY, USA.
