I finally got around to the other beer from my Rare Beer Club Unboxing at The Beer Shed. As I said this is the other beer that was in my Rare Beer Club shipment and this beer is called Gotlandsdricka. This beer is by Jester King out of Austin Texas. Gotlandsdricka is a regional style of beer from the Gotland area of Sweden. It is a farmhouse bases beer that incorporates different ingredients depending on what the brewer has available. Jester King's version uses Smoked Malt, Juniper and Myrica Gale. I had no idea what color to expect the beer to be so I was somewhat surprised to see it pour out a cloudy pale yellow with a thick eggshell white head. The nose was fruity, funky and I hat to say it... horse blanket. Lots of wild fruits and a little bit of smoke. The body was effervescent and medium. The flavors were super complex. There is a lot going on in this beer. It was smoky, hoppy, fruity, tart and even had a little bit of juniper in it. The flavors came in waves and danced on the palette. The flavors constantly change in the mouth almost giving a new experience with every mouthful. The 6.4% abv was not noticeable at all. This beer was great but its not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a robust, complex, thinking experience while drinking a beer, definitely check this out if you can find it.
