The Global Surge Team is a group of experienced, skilled, and highly-trained professionals, who respond where there is urgent need.

They are deployed by the British Red Cross and are ready to be sent to a humanitarian supporting any one of the 192 national Red Cross or Red Crescent societies when needed.

This might be in response to a rapid onset disaster such as an earthquake or hurricane, but could also be in support of longer-term programmes and operations.

Most recently, the Global Surge Team has supported local societies with the current crisis in Ukraine, the Haiti earthquake in 2021, and the Covid-19 response in 2020 – 2021.
