In this Indonesia vlog, I finally landed in Bali, a destination I’ve dreamt about for years—and from the moment I stepped off the plane, Bali was not how I imagined it.
After a long AirAsia flight that I honestly didn’t enjoy, I was exhausted but excited. But before I could officially enter Indonesia, I ran into a surprise—I didn’t realize I needed an Indonesia e-visa! I share my first-time experience navigating Ngurah Rai International Airport, talking through immigration, security, and how I felt finally stepping into this new country as a Muslim traveler.
Right away, Bali hit me with a culture shock. The airport itself is filled with Hindu architecture, statues of their gods, and temple-like structures—something I didn’t expect at all. From there, I met my super friendly taxi driver, bought him a drink, and was amazed at how cheap the prices were—even inside the airport!
I exchanged money and became a “millionaire” for the first time—Indonesia’s currency will take some getting used to! Then, we headed to our stunning accommodation near Ubud, surrounded by jungle views and a massive pool. I surprised my wife with rose petals on the bed spelling “I love you,” and shared how affordable it is to stay long-term in Bali with comfort and luxury.
Exploring the streets of Ubud for the first time was something else. The humid air, the rice fields, and the relaxing jungle vibe were straight out of a dream. I grabbed a cold Milo drink, a popular treat in Indonesia, and explored the famous Ubud Art Market, where everything is handmade and incredibly unique.
One big surprise? I expected Bali to feel like Malaysia—but it doesn’t. It has its own rich, spiritual, and artistic atmosphere. I chatted with local shopkeepers, bought a beautiful handmade bag for my wife, and asked about halal food—turns out, it’s not always easy to find halal in Bali, but it is possible. We later found a halal burger spot, and it was so good I had to leave a tip!
From jungle walks to souvenir shopping, and even walking into what I thought was a temple but turned out to be a massage place—the whole day was filled with surprises and kindness from locals. I ended the day swimming at our hotel and grabbing some delicious Indonesian desserts (cookies, of course!).
