Jana Jae is known for her work in alternative styles of music, in addition to classical music performances.Jana is proud of her early contribution to the Redding string program, whose registration went from 4 students to over 200 in her first year of teaching, and still thrives today. She enjoys performing nationally and presents three annual Summer Music Festivals.

Cheri Gans studied and performed chamber music in France, England, Italy, and Romania, playing violin and viola. For sixteen years she was concertmaster of the Shasta Symphony and Redding Symphony. Now Cherie is a first violin with the Shasta and North State Symphonies and Trio Francaise. She adores giving house chamber music parties! Feel free to come!

Sherry Hanson began playing at an early age. She has played Schneider's New York String Seminar, the Sacramento, North State, Eureka, and Juneau Symphonies, and the Arcata Bay Quartet. While attending Peabody Conservatory of Music, she studied with Walter Trampler. She has soloed with the TBAM Festival String Orchestra.

Barbara Johnston studied music at Stanford University, UC Berkeley, and the Guildhall School of Music in London. Her solo appearances with numerous orchestras have included works by Schumann, Elgar, Bloch, Boccherini, Vivldi, Faure, Saint-Saens, and Richard Strauss. She is now principal cellist of the Newport Symphony and performs regularly with two string quartets in the Portland area.

The Compass Quartet is grateful for summer chamber music experiences in California and Romania, where they met. The Compass String Quartet was the most fortunate result of that meeting.
