Downtown Houston has one of the largest collection of theater venues in the nation. They are all together in the area called the Theater District, which is right among the skyscrapers that make up the Houston skyline. More than two million people are estimated to visit the Theater District per year and they say they have 19,341 seats for live performances and 1,580 movie seats within the area. So it ranks second in the nation in size and Houston is one of 5 cities that have permanent professional performing in opera, ballet, symphony and theater. The most popular venues include Jones Hall, Wortham Theater Center, The Alley Theatre and Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Bayou Music Center is a major live music venue with a large stage and a capacity for a large crowd. You can also find some casual live music around some restaurants in the area, including Lyric Market and Birraporetti’s. Good times.
