Описание к видео Sundhnúksgígaröð Volcano Overtopping Event | 7th April 2024 | Iceland mbl.is

Footage from mbl.is webcams (all rights reserved) of the interesting Sundhnúksgígaröð (Sund-hnoo-ga-gee-ghar) crater overflow event on 7th April 2024 that I timelapsed (real-time section halfway through). I found it interesting and wanted to share with annotations. Lava flowed from the crater in the same manner for weeks through a lava tube on the south side, which finally stalled for one reason or another. The question I had was, was it due to a block, or was it an increase in output, or both? Later in the evening the then very-full crater cracked on the north side and pushed out, flooding the north side of the field with lava and draining the crater. I think the lavafall is a nice show & tell as to how much output was actually coming from the vent, previously disguised underground through the tube.

EDIT 10th April: I wasn't expecting this to go modestly viral, as I was only trying to show this to some of my colleagues. All imagery remains courtesy of www.mbl.is all rights reserved. Some of you are complaining about the timelapse - apologies - I will not be uploading a real time version... I will leave that to mbl.is as it's their footage. However if you do like mother nature in timelapse, feel free to check out my weather footage from my channel, especially the timelapse playlist    • Timelapse & Explainers
