Walking Tour of Vevey, Switzerland

Vevey is a beautiful Swiss town on the north shore of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva), between Lausanne and Montreux. Tributes to its most famous resident, Charlie Chaplin, can be found throughout town. Chaplin called Vevey home from 1952 until his death in 1977. Be sure to watch the walking tour of nearby Coursier-ur-Vevey for even more about Chaplin, including his final resting place!

Vevey has a rich chocolate heritage. Not only is it the home of the world headquarters of Nestlé, founded in 1867, but milk chocolate was invented in Vevey by Daniel Peter and Henri Nestlé in 1875. Vevey was also the original home of the Swiss chocolate brand Callier, founded in 1819, until the factory moved to nearby Broc in 1898.

This walking tour starts at the Charlie Chapin mural, welcoming visitors into town. Right across the street is Nestlé world headquarters - the perfect spot to grab some snacks for the rest of the tour. We'll proceed down to the lakefront and enjoy the stunning mountain views while passing the public swimming pools, parks, and promenade.

Once we reach the Charlie Chaplin statue and Fork of Vevey monument outside the Alimentarium, we'll leave the lake and begin winding our way through old-town. Our first stop is Hôtel de ville Square, located right across from Lido Vevey, a Swiss department store celebrating 150 years in business! A quick left, and we're met by an optical illusion where the mountains across the lake appear to be so close you could touch them!

The amazing architecture mixed with modern buildings and murals and the perfect backdrop to an afternoon stroll.

We'll pass by some local bakeries and the Läderach store to replenish our snacks before making our way to the train station, where we'll end this part of our tour.
