A brief history of VHS

Описание к видео A brief history of VHS

JVC began selling VHS tapes to consumers in 1976, a full year after Sony’s proprietary Betamax hit the market. Because of its longer runtime, lower price tag, and maybe in some small part because of Americans hunger for pornography VHS quickly became the medium of choice for consumers and rental stores. But that all changed in 1997, when DVDs were introduced and immediately ate into the VHS market share. By 2002 more discs were sold than cassettes and by 2008 VHS tapes were effectively obsolete, dropped from most major retailers.
