Many gardeners struggle with seed starting—not because they don’t try, but because they make a few common mistakes that can stunt growth or kill young plants. In this video, we cover one of the most important steps in early plant care: up-potting (also called transplanting seedlings to larger containers).

✅ Why Up-Potting Matters: When seedlings outgrow their starter cells or trays, their roots get cramped, leading to stunted growth and nutrient deficiency. Up-potting gives roots space to expand, leading to stronger, healthier transplants.

✅ When to Up-Pot: As soon as your seedlings have 1–2 sets of true leaves and you notice roots at the bottom of the cell, it's time to move them!

✅ How to Up-Pot:

Gently remove the seedling from its tray, being careful not to damage the roots.

Choose a pot 2–4 inches in diameter (depending on the plant size and growth rate).

Fill with quality potting mix and transplant your seedling, firming the soil gently around it.

Water thoroughly and return to a sunny location or under grow lights.
