DRDO’s Made-in-India Anant Shastra to Join Indian Army, Protect Borders and Modernise Air Defence

The Indian Army has taken a big step to strengthen its air defence. It has signed a ₹30,000 crore deal with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to get the Anant Shastra missile system. This system is made by DRDO and was earlier called QRSAM. It is built to move fast, protect troops, and hit aerial targets like drones, fighter jets, and missiles. The Army plans to use it along the borders with China and Pakistan.

Anant Shastra is a mobile missile system. It comes with launchers, radar, fire control, and command systems. Its radar can track many targets at once. The missiles can hit targets up to 30 kilometres away and at heights up to 10 kilometres. The timing of this deal is important. Pakistan is upgrading its air defence with Chinese systems like the HQ-19 missile. China also has advanced jets, drones, and radar support. Anant Shastra also supports India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat goal. It is made in India, so the Army does not rely on imports. BEL will make, maintain, and upgrade the system in the country.
