MEDIA RELEASE: Possible Drowning Investigation at Amerson River Park

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Macon Bibb County Fire Department, and members of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, responded to investigate a possible drowning incident at the Amerson River Park on July 15, 2025, at 7:29 p.m., Tuesday.

It was reported to deputies that a seven-year-old female, ten-year-old female and twenty-eight-year-old male were in the water when they suddenly went under. Deputies and members of the Macon Bibb Fire Department began a search for all three individuals and were later assisted the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Dive teams stopped the search at 9:04 p.m., the search will continue Wednesday morning. The names of the three individuals will not be released at this time.

Amerson River Park will be closed on Wednesday to allow rescue crews to continue the search.
