The European energy sector is going through a period of massive uncertainty as it struggles to balance the competing priorities of energy affordability, sustainability and security of supply. This 'trilemma' is driving the need for innovation and new investment in the way that electricity is generated, distributed and consumed. This will have a knock on effect not only within the industry itself, but across the wider economy. This lecture by Pat O'Doherty considered the issues facing the electricity sector and their implications for energy policy.

About the Speaker:

Pat O'Doherty is Chief Executive of ESB. He is a Trustee of The Conference Board of the United States and a director of Energy UK. Prior to his appointment as Chief Executive he headed up each of ESB's main businesses. He holds a Masters degree in Engineering from University College Dublin and has also completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
